Bunny Sock Hop

By popular demand we are starting a subscription sock of the every other month club. Folks have been so enthusiastic about our hand dyed colorways and my sock patterns that we are venturing into this arena.

Hopping over months with hand dyed and original pattern sock kits that will come out in November, January, March, May, July and September with an optional special bonus kit in June. Many of the descriptions are still a bit sketchy. I will add to them as the creative juices flow and the patterns are clearer to me and tested.

Our first offering will be sent out around November 10, with still enough time to make this neat present for someone special-- even you.

Each month will bring you a unique pattern with enough yarn to make up to a large pair of women's socks or up to a medium pair of men's. Directions will be given for small, med and large women's sizes. Most of the socks will be using a #2 or #3 dpn. Those of you who do Magic Loop can easily translate.

November is Evergreen - hand dyed (MC) forest greens and deep blue greens in a soft angora/merino yarn paired with (CC) white angora/merino yarn. This pattern will feature a charted snowy pine tree on each side of the cuff/leg. Very striking, sophisticated and warm.

January is Snowflakes - hand dyed blues on white angora/merino yarn knit in a snowflake lace pattern. Just the ticket for those wintry days.

March is Thinking of Spring - hand dyed superwash merino/tencel yarn in a spring flower. This one will feature a floral pattern and may include a contrasting color.

May is Blueberry Buckle - a delicious dessert to knit. This pattern will be a toe-up sock featuring bobbles and a picot cast off. Sweet.

July is Summer Fruit Salad - in superwash merino/tencel. A bright short sock with a juicy ruffled cuff.

September is Natural - a warmer thicker sock in natural silver gray alpaca/wool which will appeal to both men and women.

OPTIONAL BONUS - June is Roses for You - even if you already have this colorway, the pattern will make these socks look very different from the one you have already made. It features a panel of rose leaves down the front, with a charted rose in #5 embroidery thread on the heel and a turned cuff with leaves encircling the sock.

My Katherine's Cup Spindle from Greensleeves Spindle (www.greenssleevesspindles.com), has arrived. It is just beautiful. I am not one who can spindle, I tried it a couple of times and gave up, ( lack of patience). Well , last night, with Janettes assistance I was spinning with my spindle. I can't wait to get home from work to spin some more. Like Janette says, " 20 minutes a day, that's all it takes", so 20 minutes a day it will be.

JUST ANOTHER WEEK

Here it is a Thursday morning at 5:30 AM, and I thought I would let you know what is going on:

Chip'n for Dale ended last week (we collected almost $3,000)
Janette and I are sending out the offering gifts on Friday
I sent Doug the mohair fleece I have gotten from the girl I bought my "Suzie" from. ( He is going to process it into fiber.
I ripped out my Kiri shawl ( I hated knitting it ) , and am now making a landscape shawl ( and I am happy to report, I love it).
I have two different fibers on my two spinning wheels, both are from Susan's Spinning Bunny ( I am spinning on my Lendrum " Blueberry Patch, and on my Susie, "Clematis Vine"
and of course, I am working on a pair of Socks that Rock Socks as well as a shawl, plus a few other projects.

I will try to post some pictures over the weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JUST ANOTHER FRIDAY

Here it is my day off, and it is 10 AM and I have already taken Jessie to the Groomer ( I have to pick him up at 11) went to work for a meeting that was postponed, and went food shopping at Publix. I will soon be leaving again to go to the bank, pick up Jessie and go to the UPS store, not necessarily in that order. And then come home and do some much neglected knitting.

Chip 'n for Dale ended Tuesday. I am proud to announce that Janette and I collected almost $3,000, with the help of donations from the fiber community. And the best news yet, was that Dale was released from the hospital at the same time. The only thing we have to do is send off the gifts and that will be next Friday.

Gotta get going, thanks again to everyone for your donations!!!

And Who Should We Patronize ?

Knitting and spinning has been scarce for me the last month. I have been putting my energy into Chip 'n for Dale. But seeing the money coming in, and the wonderful good wishes for Dale, and generosity of everybody is certaintly worth the time spent.

Janette and I have met and spoken to many caring, generous people. We have dealt with some wonderful and very generous yarn store owners. I will be patronizing and hopefully everybody I know will as well www.spinningbunny.com/, www.heritageyarns.com/, www.knittingzone.com/, and http://www.yarns2ewe.com/. These vendors, donated very generously, while the local yarn stores we have been patronizing, didn't even acknowledge Dale. ( Dale spent many years shopping at these stores ).

Let's all get together and give business to the people who helped us, and the one's who are willing to give back to the knitting community.

JUST ANOTHER BUSY WEDNESDAY

As you probably have noticed I have been very busy with Chip 'n for Dale. http://chip-n--for-dale.blogspot.com/We are over $1700, and Janette and I have surpassed our initial goal by more the $ 1,000. In fact, Janette and I have been spending so much time together that we seem to be finishing each others sentences.
My day has been beginning at 5AM, with either sending an IM to Janette or receiving one from Janette. Then of course, one of us will e-mail the other during the day, with phone conversations in between to discuss the blog. And then there are the in between house calls, and a night does not go by without goodnights at 10:30. Who ever thought that we would be able to stand so much of each other!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me start by saying, I just can't get Dale and Chip 'n for Dale off my mind. I spoke to Chris ( Dale's husband) on IM yesterday and he said she was feeling a little better. We are now up to $1185.00, but we must raise more. Janette and I (and I am sure all our fellow knitters) will do anything they can to make this a very successful and substantial donation for the Jarrett's.

Yesterday at knitting we were pleasantly suprised when a church group of knitters showed up at Barnes and Noble and joined us. And then Marcie, a knitter from West Palm Beach, joined us as well. They are all such a group of wonderful people (but what else could knitters be), it was like we knew each other for ever. I will post pictures from yesterday, after work.

CHIP 'N FOR DALE

I just want to scream out with joy, Janette and I are so happy that we have collected to date $725.00 for chip-n--for-dale.blogspot.com/. We can only imagine how much we will have in contributions once the knitters step up to the plate. The generosity of total strangers, and there well wishes for Dale are so heartwarming.

I have been receiving e-mails daily from Chris (Dale's Husband). Dale has completed 2 days of chemo, with today being the 3rd. Today's round of Chemotherapy has been very taxing to Dale.
With their faith and our prayers, I know things will soon start getting easier for Dale.

Last night I spoke to Dale, friend and fellow OAKS member (Orlando Area Knitters), she has arrived safely in Houston and is in the processing of having pre-testing for her bone marrow transplant. She sounds good, and is preparing for her admission to the hospital on July 3rd.

I guess by now, many of you have received the letters Janette and I sent out regarding the launch of http://chip-n--for-dale.blogspot.com/. We are excited and just know it will be a great success. Please check the above link on July 3rd for day 1 of 30.

Well, where shall I start. As most of you know I am just a little complusive. I decided last week that I want another spinning wheel. So, I decided to explore ebay. There it was a Majacraft Suzie. At that point I new that I must have it. (yeah, right). So, I placed a bid on it. Meanwhile, I knew I didn't need 3 spinning wheels, so I decided to sell one of the Lendrums. ( the problem with the original Lendrum turned out to be the bobbins I bought from a vendor that claimed to have Lendum bobbins). So, here it is Thursday morning, the proud owner of a Suzie. It will be sent out today, so I imagine I should have it on Monday. I will post pictures upon receipt.

Jessie is my 10 year old red toy poodle. I bought him from a breeder when he was 8 weeks. He is my best friend and companion. He never complains about the fiber all over, and my many projects in progress. And he will wait for me to finish a row before I take him out or feed him. He is the best!

I have been busy the last few days, therefore, I didn't have a chance to write. Janette and I have been very busy working on our latest project, details to follow at a later date. And I have been working on spinning the last 6 ounces of the Blueberry Patch. In fact, tonight I am going to start a scarf with it. I am half way through the Fred Flintstone, Socks that Rock, first sock. I am knitting the wendyknits.net/knit/spirittrail pattern. Steven's sweater is coming along well. I am still working on my shawl. Oh, I forgot about my Fiesta Shawl, it is blocked and all I have to do is put the fringe on. I don't remember if I had mentioned it previously, but I have joined a Sunday Afternoon Guild. Some of the girls that belong to Saturday morning (Barnes and Noble) also belong here. It was a nice afternoon and I am looking forwarded to attending again.

And one might ask what's new? Susan of http://www.spinningbunny.com has come out with a new color sock yarn, Clematis - lavenders and pale orchid with leaf greens. You can check her sight for a picture.

What A Night

Michelle came over after work last night, we went through my fiber, Michelle bought a Sock That Rock skein from me ( a duplicate) and some fiber that she liked from my stash. Then we proceded over to Janette's for a delicious dinner and spinning. Michelle plyed 628 yards of a mix of Turquoise and Denim Merino, and Janette was knitting an Estonian Garden Lace Shawl, ( a Fiber Trends pattern ) from her homespun Roses for You, and I just about finished spinning 6 ounces of Blueberry Patch, which I will ply tonight, ( 6 more ounces to go ) . I saw the new Socks that Rock Colors at http://www.bluemoonfiberarts.com/, but Janette was no longer on line, so I just new it would have to wait to the morning before I showed them to her. But the next morning there was an email from Janette, telling me to look at the same website. We end up buying two skeins each. Janette ordered Highway 30 and Lemongrass. I ordered County Clare and Fred Flintstone . I will post the yarn as soon as we receive them. Tonight I am going over to Janette's and I will bring my camera. Watch Out Janette, you and your projects will soon be part of my next posting.

This week I knitted a slipper with my home spun wool, the other one is forthcoming, I am also finished with my first toe up sock, ( socks that rock) and got to spin the Alpaca/Merino/Tussah Top 50/30/20 , I bought from www.spinningbunny.com. I enjoyed spinning with it so much I called and ordered more. And I also started knitting a sweater for my son Steven. Tonight I went over to Janette's we spun and drank coffee, and more coffee. What would I do without Janette? Tomorrow I will take pictures and post them.

Knitting at Barnes and Noble

Yesterday was the first day I had attended knitting at Barnes and Noble in a long time. Now that my work schedule is allowing me to attend I will be there every Saturday. The usual was there, Janette, Michelle, Jody, Melanie, Mary, Judy and Helen and a suprise visit from Dale. It was so good to see her. I worked on my toe up sock. I received my replacement SOCKS THAT ROCK yarn. And I can't wait to tell Janette that our sock yarn from Susan's Spinning Bunny shipped.

Toes Up

Last night I went over to Janette's and with her help and support I started my first pair of toe up socks using Socks that Rock yarn. We talked about my making a sweater for my son Steven. I chose Lion Brand Wool-Ease Yarn -Butterscotch, and ordered 12 skeins today. I will be making Steven the same sweater I am making Doug. Today, Janette and I decided to try spinningbunny.com 50% Superwash Merino/50% Tencel sock yarn. Janette chose "Denim", ( for her son-in-law Gregg) and mine will be a suprise, even to me. I can't wait for the mailman to bring my fiber. I will post pictures at a later date.

Spinning

Last night I was watching television, and with the thought of going to Janette's tonight and spinning with her and Michelle, I decided that I had better start spinning immediately. I forgot how relaxing and how much I enjoyed it. I spun some confetti, and will continue spinning it tonight. I am going to take Janette's suggestion and make socks with it, but this time toe up.

Did Janette and I need more fiber? We are soon going to have to move to large quarters. Today we bought Hand Dyed Targhee. I bought 12 ounces of Blueberry Patch and Janette bought 12 ounces of Roses for You. I think I forgot to mention that last week we purchased Socks that Rock Yarn. I will take pictures of everything we bought, once we get the fiber. We decided today that we had better start spinning alot more :)

A busy weekend

Yesterday was the first time in months I was able to go to knitting on a Saturday morning at Barnes and Noble. Janette, Judy, Jody, Michelle, Ellen and then a new girl named Helen was there. I signed up for a two day class with Judy Pascale in November. ( I am excited my first class with someone other than my dear friend Janette). My goal for this week is to finish Doug's socks, my socks and work on my Mountain Color Shawl.

AN EVENING OF KNITTING

Today was the first time in about 2 weeks since I have seen Janette. She made a delicious dinner of Pea Soup and Sandwiches. We measured the midnight (Doug spun yarn) he sent up this week, divided in 1/2 my Michelle (christmas gift) Mountain Color Sock Yarn (that will be for socks for me), and divided in 1/2 Janette's, Socks that Rock Yarn. I did some knitting on my shawl, Doug's almost finished second sock and Doug's sweater. While Janette worked on finishing Gregg's socks (her future son-in-law). It was a wonderful evening as always.

Michelle, one of my fiber friends, and I had made plans to go to New Hampshire Sheep and Wool on Mother's Day Weekend. Plane tickets were bought, and I learned on Thursday that I can not go back to work for atleast another week (sick leave) and my work schedule was changed, previously I was off on Sunday's and Mondays. My new schedule has me off on Friday and Saturday. And after much thinking, I decided it may not be a good idea to go. The main reason I was going, was no longer an issue. After discussing it with Michelle we decided not to go and we would spend all the money we were saving on fiber :)

Let me introduce myself

I am a knitter and a spinner. My love of fiber became apparent sometime last March, after I a dear friend Doug introduced me to the wonderful world of fiber. My first project was a crochet afghan (looking back, what an awful attempt at crocheting.) next came a queen size crocheted afghan,( made of wool spun by Doug) for Doug. (Not much better). Next I joined a knitting guild and met my savior Janette. After much patience. mainly on her part, I finished my first project, a pair of socks for Doug. Since that time, I have knitted multiple pair of socks, a shawl, a vest (from my home spun yarn). And I am presently working on a midnight blue sweater (yarn spun by Doug), and a Kiri Shawl using Mountain Color Yarn, and a cotton sweater for myself. I will start posting pictures of my on going projects in the near future. I am now spinning on a Ledrum Wheel, but am looking into purchasing another wheel, and suggestions, would be most helpful.
